The MM College Wairaka Old Students Association (MMCWOSA) is a non-profit organization founded about 15 years ago by a small group of motivated old students of Wairaka College, a secondary school located in Jinja District, Uganda. With their patron Mr. Gandi, the then Headmaster of the school, the association was established to provide a platform for former students to give back to their alma mater and to keep in touch with each other
The first president of MMCWOSA was Mr. Arinaitwe Raymond, and he was succeeded by ENG. Kiige Geofrey, a member of the cohort of 1989-1990, who is currently the District Engineer of Mbale District. Other leaders of the association include Eng. Akovuku Albert, who serves as the General Secretary and is the Chief Operating Officer of Kiira Motors Corporation, Nambi Zainah, who is the Vice President and a politician, Dr. Christine Lwabi Awoii, who is the Treasurer and the CEO of CAL Dental Clinic, and Mr. Obbo Manasseh, who serves as the Publicity Secretary and is a senior State House official. The current patron of MMCWOSA is Mr. Kiirya Moses, and the team is assisted by cohort leaders.
Thanks to Counsel Nathan Osinde(OSH Advocates), a member of the cohort of 1994-1995 and a legal adviser, the association is now fully registered. MMCWOSA holds two events every year, the Wairaka Fundraising Dinner in July and the Homecoming in October. These events provide a chance for old students to reconnect with each other and to raise funds for various projects to support the school
Over the years, the association has carried out various activities to support the school, including renovations, restocking various parts of the college, and current looking at providing scholarships to needy students. The association also sponsors an annual football competition between the different cohorts of old students.
MMCWOSA has made a significant impact on the school and the community. Through their efforts, the association has helped to improve the learning environment for the students and has provided opportunities for disadvantaged students to access education
The association has also played a vital role in fostering a sense of community among the old students of Wairaka College. By bringing together former students from different cohorts, MMCWOSA has created a network of professionals who can support each other in their personal and professional endeavors.
In conclusion, the Wairaka Old Students Association is an excellent example of how former students can come together to support their alma mater and their community. Through their dedication and hard work, the association has made a positive impact on the school and has helped to create a strong community of old students.
